Subjects Taught
Biology, Environmental Science

I am a life long learner, frequently learning from students while teaching.  I received a BA in Behavioral Sciences from Warren Wilson College in 1983.  My interdisciplinary MA in Natural Sciences was received from the University of South Carolina in 2003.  My original teacher certification program was from a small West Texas university - Sul Ross State University.

Besides these, I have had the pleasure of taking courses at University of North carolina - Asheville, Claflin University, and South Carolina State University.

I have learned just as much from my travels as a younger person than I did during formal schooling.  I have been on 5 continents and have made friends on each one I visited.

Work Experience:

1983 - 1985 - I worked with developmentally disabled adults at the Babcock Center in Columbia SC.

1985 - 1989 - I worked with violent youth in West Texas at High Frontier Inc.

1989 - 1998 - I worked with the developmentally disabled in Asheville NC at The Black Mountain Center.

1998 - present - I teach honors biology and AP Environmental Science at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High school in Orangeburg, SC

I was born and raised in Columbia SC and come from a family of teachers and preachers, many of whom were naturalists and outdoorsmen.  I left home to attend college in Western North Carolina, returning after graduation for a couple of years.  Always on the lookout for adventure (as a young man), I got a job as a counselor at a ranch serving troubled, violent youths who had been adjudicated into the Texas Department of Juvenile Justice.

Four years later I returned to Western North Carolina to serve folks suffering through developmental disabilities.  I continued this work until my present employment at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School.
