Principal's Letter to Parents 2015-2016

July 21, 2015

Dear Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Parents/Students:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share our vision for the 2015-2016 school year.  My name is Dr. Stephen Peters, and I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition that has produced so many outstanding students.  Most recently, two of our graduates (Class of 2015) were named Gates Millennium Scholars, one of the most prestigious scholarship awards distributed to high school students across our nation.  I have dedicated the last thirty-five years of my life to public education serving as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, Sr. Director of Human Resources, and Director of Secondary Education.  Born and raised in South Carolina, it is a pleasure to return to my home state with experiences I hope will serve our faculty, staff, students, and community well.

Our administrative team is finalizing the process of planning for the upcoming school year.  We have four specific goals that will create the right conditions for success for our students.

Goals for 2015-2016:

I.                    Create and maintain a safe and orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.

II.                  Engage in rigorous and relevant professional development activities that promote learning and growth.

III.               Increase student achievement.

IV.                Involve community and other agencies to ensure the overall success of O-W High School.

In order to accomplish these goals, I ask for your assistance in helping our students become successful this school year.  Our students must be on time to school and maintain great attendance to ensure a successful academic experience.  Our organizational structure will be aligned with and support the realities of our students.

We have exciting plans for our students and our faculty/staff are prepared to accomplish our goals to make this a great year for everyone involved in our mission.  Please know, for us, FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!

High school is the last step your son/daughter takes before he/she ventures into new endeavors as a young adult, and we want to ensure success for them as they create life-long memories here at O-W.  Our theme for 2015-2016 is “Opportunities Waiting”. Please join us in our quest to be the best.

Please feel free to contact any admistrator or myself if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

With warmest regards,

Stephen Peters, Ed.D.
